Florida Hospital will no longer be included in Humana’s network

Last month Florida Hospital notified Humana that effective October 18, 2014 it would no longer be part of Humana’s commercial HMO, PPO, EPO and POS provider network. Although there were discussions to retain in-network access to these hospitals for Humana members, an agreement was not reached.

An announcement from Humana confirmed last week that “Florida Hospital Orlando campuses, including Florida Hospital Orlando, Florida Hospital Children’s, Florida Hospital Altamonte, Florida Hospital East Orlando, Florida Hospital Apopka, Florida Hospital Celebration, Florida Hospital Kissimmee, Winter Park Memorial Hospital and ancillaries including Florida Hospital Centra Cares (Urgent Care), Florida Hospital Radiology, and Air and Ground Ambulance are no longer part of Humana’s commercial HMO, PPO, EPO and POS provider network.”

Emergency care is not affected by provider/hospital contracts so Humana members will continue to have access to Florida Hospital emergency facilities. Florida Hospital is still contracted to provide care for Humana Medicare plan members.

What does that mean to you?

  • If you are a current Humana member, be sure to clarify whether the procedures you have scheduled in the next few months will be at covered medical facilities.
  • Negotiate if you would prefer to have your procedure performed at a Florida Hospital facility. Florida Hospital has offered our clients special pricing for procedures such as mammograms to enable Humana members to keep their appointments for a low cash payment.
  • Be sure to check available networks when your policy renews. Humana’s network includes many other hospital facilities in the Orlando market, including the following hospitals in Orange, Osceola and Seminole counties:
    • Orlando Regional Medical Center
    • Lucerne Pavilion (Orlando Regional Medical Center)
    • UF Health Cancer Center Orlando Health
    • Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children
    • Winnie Palmer Hospital for Women and Babies
    • Dr. P. Phillips Hospital
    • Orlando Health Central Hospital
    • St. Cloud Regional Medical Center
    • Poinciana Medical Center

Always read updates about your policy and call us with your questions.  Remember, new requirements in the Healthcare reform law require that individual policies be renewed as of January 1, 2015.  In most cases you will only be able to make changes in your coverage during the Open Enrollment Period, which begins November 15, 2014 and ends February 15, 2015. We are here to help you with your medical coverage and any questions you may have about networks.
